A decade ago I took my first steps into the world of exhibitions, a corporate environment of processes, revenue and what I now realise was just a perception of safety.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved my time in the old place, I was involved in some fantastic events and learnt an awful lot from some very knowledgeable people, some of whom are now my closest friends.
This new approach to work took a few weeks to get used to but I realised very quickly that it was allowing me to be very creative. A good way to describe this change? It’s like I’d been trying to run the 100 metres with an open parachute attached. Instead, Nevergrey let me run around the playground holding a balloon so they can keep an eye on me.
Of all the things I enjoy about Nevergrey, it’s the way we communicate. We don’t hide behind emails and CRM systems, we talk to each other, face to face. The number of ideas and unplanned brainstorms that happen in a working day is quite impressive. Admittedly some of these ideas are a little out there but the fact they’re allowed to happen means we’re always thinking on our feet.
I’m aware that this sounds like everything we do is unplanned and, far from it. We know exactly what we’re doing and what we want to deliver, and we do it with passion. There are aspects of my projects that are way outside my comfort zone which was scary at first but I realised they’re not scary at all, they’re just new to me.
I won’t say too much about the work we do here and the clients we work with as there are a few follow up pieces coming from the rest of the team, but the next 12 months are going to be extremely busy.
Anyone that knows me will tell you about my near obsession with photography. My mobile or camera are always ready to capture a moment which is normally how I express my creativity or experiences of any given day.
In the interests of trying something new, you are currently reading my first ever blog.
These six months have taught me how important it is not to be afraid of trying something different. The only thing holding you back is you. Go and find your balloon.
